1. The Resort Park

The Resort Park

The Palace Park was established, in place of the old palace gardens, near the Schaffgotsch Palace in 1713. In 1796, a whole alley of Lombardy poplar trees was planted, giving way to the creation of the public Resort Park. Between 1816 and 1821 the Park area was expanded towards the east and arranged in the English landscape garden style. A theater designed by Albert Tollberg was built between 1835 and 1836 near the Park’s Gallery. In 1838 the Resort Park was, once again, expanded, this time towards south and west by the design of Ritter of Bad Muskau. The Kursaal (now “Edward Pavilion”) was built between 1867 and 1869 close to the Park promenade.
