1. GB Priest Andrzej Bokiej
Priest Andrzej Bokiej was born on 17 July 1957 in Jelenia Góra.
He was ordained as a priest in 1982. From 1991 onwards, he served as pastor of the Parish of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. He also served as a chaplain in the Polish Army garrison in Jelenia Góra.
He was known for his contributions to culture and was the founder and general director of the “Silesia Sonans” Festival, among other things.
He was awarded the Bronze, Silver and Gold Cross of Merit, the Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal 'Armed Forces in the Service of the Homeland’, and the Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal of Merit for National Defence. He was also awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
A priest who could speak about the Church in simple terms, he inspired reflection on matters of faith.
A pastor and an authority figure, he was listened to attentively by both the faithful and people with their own convictions, who found universal guidance and important truths in his words.
